Applying for Seminar Participation

We would absolutely encourage every student who’s interested in our programs to apply for participation using the form below. HOBY New Mexico is a growing organization. We would love for every student to have exposure to our programs, seminars, and workshops. Understandably there aren’t enough resources for every student to participate in our Summer Leadership Seminar.

We are always seeking volunteer support and sponsor contributions to help grow our HOBY programs. And we’re committed to bringing HOBY Community Leadership Workshops (CLeW) to schools and communities throughout New Mexico throughout the year. Each student ambassador who becomes an alumni has the skills, knowledge, motivation and resources to organize a CLeW at their school when they return from our seminars.

2019 Leadership Seminar Application

Submitting an application to attend the Leadership Seminar is not a guarantee of acceptance or participation. Please read the important application information herein before completing this application form. By submitting this application you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the information provided.

1. Student Enrollment

NOTICE: Applicants must be currently enrolled as at 10th Grader at a high school in New Mexico or equivalent home school program to attend our Summer Leadership Seminar.

2. Seminar Participation

Students and parents must understand that the participant is expected to attend the entire seminar, Friday morning until Sunday afternoon, including overnights and the closing ceremony. Our seminar check-in will occur Friday morning, June 7 between 8:00-9:00 AM.

3. Applying for Student Ambassador

If you have not been in communication with your school administration about participating as an ambassador representing your school, please complete this application form and we will direct your application to your school for consideration and follow-up. You are advised to speak with your high school counselors about participation— even after submitting your application.

4. Ambassador Selection Process

Schools may nominate and select candidates based on their own sponsor criteria. If you are not selected, or your school is unable to sponsor you, then you may still be invited to participate—provided positions are open and scholarship or sponsors funds are available. We also limit the number of ambassadors participating from any school to five students.

5. Academic & Community Partners

Typically schools and community service partners work together to provide scholarships to ambassadors to attend our HOBY Leadership Seminars. Optimists, Lions, Civitan, Kiwanis, Rotary Clubs, Junior League, National PTA, and GFWC are just a few HOBY partners that provide volunteer and financial support to our student ambassadors.

6. Non-discrimination & Harassment Policy

HOBY is an all-inclusive organization and does not tolerate discrimination or harassment of any participant or volunteer based on race, color, national or ethnic origin, age, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, veteran status or any other characteristic protected under applicable federal or state law.

7. Background Checks & Child Protection Policy

HOBY International and each state affiliaterequires background checks of all seminar volunteers and adult leadership ages 18 and older. All volunteers must complete the HOBY Annual Background Check Form (PDF) prior to each seminar. Background checks and criminal history screenings are conducted by One Source®—The Background Check Company
